Resting-State Functional Brain Connectivity in its Second International Conference

In 1995, a groaltup of researchers at The Medical College of Wisconsin discovered the resting-state functional MRI (r-fMRI), and w ere the first to demonstrate that the brain is an organ that is never at rest, even if the body is not performing any activity. The r-fMRI technique can detect the communication occurring between different brain regions at the "resting-state" of the body. Focusing on this topic, the Second International Conference on Resting-State Functional Brain Connectivity will be held in Milwaukee, Sept, 16-19, 2010, and hosted by The Medical College of Wisconsin.

The Center for Diagnostic Imaging Opens A New Facility In Indiana

Medical imaging has been one of the most significantly important tools providing help to doctors during diagnosis. The Center decided to do so after reviewing the needs of the patients in the city. The Center for Diagnostic Imaging started a new outpatient medical imaging and image-guided procedure center in Avon. Another MRI facility at the center of the city was closed in order to avoid duplicating services. The recently opened imaging facility in Avon has several services imaging systems including a 1.5T open MRI device, digital X-ray systems, in addition to the capability of performing image-guided interventional procedures that provide help during the diagnosis and treatment of joint disorders and back pain.

Functional Brain Imaging Reveals Positive Effects of Natural Tranquil Environments on Human Brain

Functional brain imaging was used to assess the environmental impact on brain functions in a study published in the journal NeuroImage. The study revealed that tranquil living environmental scenes, such as the sea, positively affect the human brain functions, conversely, man-made environments, such as motorways, affect the brain negatively. The research, which was conducted at the University of Sheffield, involved academics from the University's Academic Unit of Clinical Psychiatry, Academic Radiology and the School of Architecture, along with the School of Engineering, Design and Technology at the University of Bradford and the Institute of Medicine and Neuroscience at J-lich, Germany.
