Bowel Cancer Screening Can Save 1000 Patients Annually

Bowel cancer is one of the most common types of cancer. The disease is accounted for a high number of mortalities every year. However, bowel cancer shows high cure rate when it is detected early. Realizing this, a number of experts from the University of Sydney said that nearly 1000 mortality cases, resulted from bowel cancer, could be prevented annually if a bowel cancer screening program was carried out by the government in Australia. These facts were highlighted in the latest issue of the Medical Journal of Australia (MJA).

A New Software To Reduce CT Radiation Exposure To Children

Computed Tomography (CT) has been one of the most important diagnostic imaging techniques. It generates 3D Ct_scan_kidsimages of body organs allowing doctors to be able to determine diseased conditions in body in a much easier way. CT has helped in diagnosing a wide range of conditions starting from broken bones until detecting vascular blockage and tumors. However, CT scan delivers much radiation doses than conventional X-ray in order to produce those highly detailed images. Concerns have been raised recently regarding the safety of the technique as high radiation doses can result in serious complication. Experts are currently discussing designing measures to minimize the delivered radiation doses, especially to children, while not affecting the quality of the generated images.
