Breast Thermography Raises Concerns In New Zealand

A number of health and medical groups in New Zealand expressed their concerns about using thermography as breast cancer screening procedure, after elevation in its use by both women and doctors. Thermography is a medical imaging technique that uses heat distribution on the surface of the body to generate images. The technique has been used as a tool for early diagnosis of breast cancer. However, several medical organizations are question the effectiveness of thermography in detecting the disease, among these organizations are the Cancer Society of New Zealand, the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists, the New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation, and the National Screening Unit in the Ministry of Health.

However, a new study shows that this fact may be changed soon. The study included using Positron Emitting Tomography (PET) and a new imaging agent, flutemetamol, which was designed by GE Healthcare, for detection of Alzheimer’s disease. The findings of the study are highlighted in the September issue of the Annals of Neurology.

Doctors Seek For Efficiency By Implementing Ambulatory EHR, Study

A new study has showed that American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) incentives are not the main drive for doctors to use electronic health records (EHRs) but the actual derive is to achieve high quality and efficiency in their work. CapSite, healthcare technology research and advisory company, has launched its 2010 U.S. Ambulatory EHR and Practice Management Study, a strategic analysis of the U.S. electronic health record market in response to the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) component of the ARRA.
