Nomogram, A New Prediction Tool To Estimate Local Recurrence Of Non-Invasive Breast Cancer

The decision concerning treatment for patients diagnosed with ductal carcinoma in-situ (DCIS) following breast-conserving surgery has long been a controversial area of debatemamo and confusion for patients as well as doctors. The mortality rates for DCIS are relatively not high but the risk of local recurrence in the breast is high. Standard treatments following surgery include radiation therapy and hormone treatment. Both techniques incur serious hazards to the patients as well as unproven improved survival rates but they can lower the risk of local tumor recurrence in the breast.

Screening Of Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Among Athletes Should Consider Type & Intensity Of Exercise

A Spanish study presented at the European Society of Cardiology Congress revealed that the screening processESC for young footballers to identify those at risk of heart disease does not take into account the type and intensity of the exercise performed. Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is the single most common cause of sudden death in competitive footballers. HCM is an idiopathic condition in which cardiac muscles undergo pathological thickening. The recommended screening tests to detect athletes who are at risk of HCM, specially young athletes because they are more vulnerable to the disease, include physical examination, an assessment of medical history and conducting a 12-lead electrocardiogram (ECG). However, this ECG screening process does not take into consideration the type and intensity of the exercise performed, so its reliability is still questionable.
