PAT, A New Imaging Technique For Melanoma

In a recent study, researchers were able to develop a new imaging technique to be used for generating images of melanoma, which is a less common type of skin cancer but it results in the greater section of skin cancer mortalities. Melanoma is characterized by its high survival rate provided that the disease is detected early. During surgical intervention, surgeons tend to remove as little extra healthy tissue with the cancerous one. But till now, there was no imaging technique that shows the exact margins of the tumor. Surgeons have to cut beyond the definite melanoma boundaries to be sure that all the cancerous tissues are removed.
