According to a new study, the basal cells of the prostate were identified as the cell of origin for human prostate cancer for the first time. This recent discovery will help in further development of diagnostic tools and effective treatment for the prostate cancer patients. The study was carried out by researchers from Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center, UCLA. The study was highlighted in the July 30, peer-reviewed journal Science.
