GE to Develop Pediatric MRI Systems
GE Healthcare, a leading company providing medical imaging systems and healthcare IT solutions, along with
Cincinnati Children’s Medical Center and the Davis Heart and Lung Institute of The Ohio State University, was awarded a fund of $1 million for developing magnetic resonance imaging MRI and other imaging devices for the “Pediatrics Population” project. By participating in this project, GE confirms its commitment to healthymagination, which is deployed to deliver new technologies and solutions to more people.
OCT Imaging Boosts Angioplasty Monitoring Procedures
A new optical imaging technique, optical coherence tomography (OCT), promises to enhance angioplasty procedures. The technique was developed recently in the United States; it is highlighted in the journal Review of Scientific Instruments, which is published by the American Institute of Physics. Angioplasty is a commonly-used surgical intervention carried out to manage patients with partial or complete block in their coronary arteries that affect cardiac blood flow.
Brain Scan Can Detect Autism, Study
In a recent study, scientists from the United Kingdom were able to develop a 15-minute brain scan technique which they
hope it could be used to diagnose autism among children, in a way that reduces the time and costs needed for identifying the disorder. The brain scan technique was developed during a study conducted by researchers from the Institute of Psychiatry at King's College London. The technique was used on adults and it showed about 90% accuracy in diagnosing autism. The study is published in The Journal of Neuroscience.

Siemens Healthcare Installs Multiple Imaging Systems At Barts Cancer Centre
The first phase of the redevelopment of St. Bartholomew’s (Barts) Hospital has recently been completed as part of a 35
year PFI Project, which includes a Managed Equipment Service (MES) partnership between Barts and The London NHS Trust and Siemens Healthcare. As part of the project, Siemens has installed eleven new imaging systems into the new Imaging and Diagnostics Department located within Barts Cancer Centre.

A New Laser Probe Offers New Option For Early Detection Of Oral Cancer
In a new study, laser beams were used for early detection of oral cancer. The laser can also be used during surgical procedures to help doctors in determining the borders of a tumor. The study was conducted by researchers from UC Davis Health System in Sacramento, California. It will be highlighted in the next issue of the journal Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery.

Performed CT And MRI Scans In US During 2010, Reduced
According to reports from several diagnostic imaging facilities, the number of CT and MRI scans performed in the United
States in 2010 is same or even less than the number of scans conducted in 2009. Tom Cabot, vice president of Arlington Medical Resources, a medical-data company, mentioned that the numbers of CT and MRI scans performed in 2009 throughout the US are declining in 2010.
