Ultrasound Provides New options For Self-embedding Patients

In a new study, ultrasound scanning was used as a minimally-invasive technique for detection and treatment of a behavioral disorder called self-embedding, where patients tend to ultrasound_systemcause injuries to themselves. The findings of the study will be highlighted in the online edition and October print issue of the journal Radiology.

A Campaign Against Medical Imaging Over-Usage

William R. Hendee, professor of radiology, radiation oncology, biophysics and bioethics at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, has recently called on radiologists across USA to mount a campaign against medical imaging over usage. Although Hendee acknowledges the benefits of imaging procedures in enhancing diagnostic accuracy, and guiding medical treatment, yet he objects on imaging procedures which are not justified in such a matter, and do not prove necessary for the patient.

Multi-color CT For Imaging Plaques

In a recent study, researchers at Mount Sinai School of Medicine were able, for the first time, to design a new way for imaging vulnerable coronary artery plaques which tend to rupture. The new way uses multi-color computed tomography (CT), which will significantly help in the earlier detection of cardiovascular disease. The study will be highlighted in the September issue of Radiology. Statistics show that nearly 70% of heart attacks are caused by rupture of atherosclerotic plaques. Usually, high density lipoproteins (HDL) are attracted to plaques vulnerable to rupture as a protection mechanism to remove them from the walls of the arteries.
