RadNet To Expand Into Medical Imaging Business By Acquiring eRAD

RadNet, Inc, National outpatient imaging center operator based in Los Angeles, has acquired Image Medical Corporation, the parent company of eRAD, Inc., for $10.75 million in cash and promissory notes. This acquisition emphasizes an increasing trend of incorporation in the medical imaging business; earlier this month, Carestream Health announced its integration with Quantum Medical Imaging, in addition Merge Healthcare recently acquired PACS competitor, Amicas. RadNet currently operates 191 outpatient imaging centers in the U.S. eRAD, a PACS and medical informatics company based in Greenville, South Carolina, supports more than 250 hospitals and teleradiology businesses.

Agfa’s Healthcare IT Solutions Move Forward In Europe

Agfa Healthcare, a major company providing medical imaging systems and healthcare IT solutions, announced that it has signed around 150 contracts for deals including its healthcare IT products within the last 8 months, 70 of them are in Europe.  Agfa provides several healthcare IT solutions including hospital information systems (HIS), radiology information systems (RIS), and picturing archiving and communications systems (PACS).

NovaRad Provides NovaPACS In Montana And Philippines

NovaRad, a major provider of PACS and RIS solutions, has entered an agreement with radiology centers in Montana and two hospitals in the Philippines to provide them with NovaPACS. In Montana, Wheatland Memorial Healthcare is a community center that will utilize web-based PACS supplied from NovaRad. This is not the first cooperation with NovaRad; previously, Wheatland used teleradiology services, but now will be able to use contract radiologists with NovaPACS web based system, thus helping to decrease report turnaround time.

Agfa And TomTec To integrate Their IMPAX And Image-Arena

Agfa Healthcare, a major company providing medical imaging systems and healthcare IT solutions, announced that it has signed an agreement with TomTec, a provider of echocardiography image analysis, reporting and data management. According to the new agreement, Agfa will integrate its IMPAX Cardiovascular Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) with TomTec’s Image-Arena solution. The solution provides several 2D, 3D, and 4D technologies for visualization, analysis, reporting and archiving of echocardiography imaging data.

European PACS Market Expected To Double Within Six Years

The value of the European Picture Archiving and Communications System (PACS) market is expected to be elevated up to the double over the next six years, due to the increased demand for Radiology Information Systems (RIS). New analysis from Frost and Sullivan European RIS/PACS Market, finds that the market was valued at €535m ($679m) in 2009 and estimates this to reach €1065m ($1,353m) in 2016. Although the use of PACS in European hospitals is 80%, yet the RIS systems that drive PACS covers only about 41% of the hospitals. According to a new report by industry analysts Frost and Sullivan, legacy RIS modules dominate the market. The report clarified that many hospitals are not enthusiastic to implement a new RIS due to the problems associated with training a large group of staff as well as concerns over data transfer and security issues. However, with the third generation of PACS implementation which takes place now  in many institutions, hospitals have recognized the importance of investing in a modern RIS.

Successful Compatibility Testing Between Symantec Health and Siemens PACS

Symantec , in collaboration with Siemens SYNGO Connectivity Competence Center (CCC), conducted connectivity tests between Symantec Health, a cloud-based medical image archiving solution, and several Siemens IT applications. The testing was successful, making Symantec to be the first DICOM archive -- a standard for handling, storing, printing and transmitting medical imaging information -- to complete validation testing with Siemens' new syngo.plaza agile PACS solution where 2D, 3D and 4D reading come together in one place.

Agfa Integrates Its IMPAX 6 With peerVue Solutions

Agfa HealthCare, a major company providing medical imaging systems and healthcare IT solutions, announced that it has extended its technical integration of IMPAX 6, a radiology Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS), in Canada through adding workflow, quality improvement, and communications solutions from peerVue, a company providing healthcare quality and communication software solutions.

StatRad, a major company providing teleradiology services, announced that it has introduced its new Stat360, which represents one of the latest teleradiology solutions in the market. Stat360 is using a combination of PACS, traditional teleradiology services, and live support from virtual radiology assistants.
