CT Colonography Can Detect Cancer Lesions Outside Colon

CT colonography has been established as an accurate and reliable method to diagnose colorectal cancer, in Walter_Reed_Logoaddition to being safer and more comfortable for patients than traditional colonscopy. Recently, one more advantage has been recognized as a new study has shown that CT colonography may be able to detect cancerous lesions outside the colon.

Patients Prefer CTC To Colonoscopy For Screening

According to a new study, patients who previously did not agree to undergo colonscopy as a screening for colorectal cancer are now willing to perform the screening using CT Colonography (CTC), provided that their medical insurance covers its costs. The study was conducted by researchers at Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, and it was published in the August issue of the American Journal of Roentgenology (AJR).

ASIR Offers New Options For Colonography

According to a new study, using adaptive statistical iterative reconstruction (ASIR), a new low dose CT procedure, offers Mayoassistance to radiologists in decreasing the currently reduced radiation dose delivered while conducting CT colonography (CTC) by about additional 50%. The study was published in the July issue of the American Journal of Roentgenology.
